Many times, you don’t know you have a roof problem till a big storm. Suddenly, something gives away and you get a LOT of water coming in. Taking into account Murphy’s Law, this will often happen in the night when no roofer is open.
So, what do you do? The first step is to locate the leak. If you are getting a lot of water penetration, it should be fairly obvious. Try climbing up in the attic space and hunting it down. Try diverting it into pots and the like till the storm dies down. If there is a full whole or gap, try to patch it with duct tape and plastic sheeting such as a garbage bag. You are not going for aesthetics. You just want the water penetration to stop or be greatly reduced. Call us as soon as business hours roll around so we can get a patch on it.
Watch out for bait and switch roofers. Most roofers are ethical, but there are a few bad apples out there.
